
Chevrolet is pleased to announce a two year extension as the title sponsor of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, providing world class racing to the people of Detroit and surrounding areas. U.S. Vice President of Chevrolet Performance Vehicles and Motorsports Jim Campell states, “the City of Detroit is on the move,” and the race “brings world class racing, back to the City of Detroit.” Bud Denker chairman of the Chevrolet Belle Isle Grand Prix expresses, “without the support of Chevrolet, we would not have been able to bring world-class auto racing back to the Motor City and with an extension of this partnership we know the future certainly looks bright on Belle Isle for the Grand Prix.”
Chevrolet Belle Isle Grand Prix runs from May 30- June 1. Held on Belle Isle’s road course, the 2.3 miles have been enhanced to accentuate the natural twist and turns of the state park. The first day of the race is Free Prix Day presented by Comerica Bank. Grand Prix goers will enjoy free admission, with access to the paddock, garage areas, live entertainment and the Meijer Fan Zone.
This year, expect to see live performances by Shaggy and Lifehouse, car corrals, great food and activities for the whole family. The event features cars of the Verizon IndyCar Series Dual in Detroit, TUDOR United Sports Car Championship, The Pirelli World Challenge Series and the Speed Energy Stadium Truck Series, and Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit, by Quicken Loans IndyCar doubleheader. Andy Pilgrim native of Nottingham, England, grew up in Pontiac, Michigan. Pilgrim is racing in the Pirelli World Challenge Series states, “feels good to be home.” Andy will be joined by Verizon IndyCar Series drivers Will Power, Ryan Briscoe and Buddy Lazier among others.
This event is a major economic boost the city of Detroit. Campbell notes, “The Grand Prix drives economic value to the City of Detroit and surrounding areas of over 46 million dollars.” Since the race in 2007, there has been 7 million dollars of improvements to Belle Isle, including renovation of the Scott Fountain, the Belle Isle Casino and the Belle Isle Boat Club.
