Human impact of immigration policies to come into sharp focus.
LINCOLN PARK, Michigan – Cindy Garcia, the American citizen whose undocumented husband was deported on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, will be a guest at both the Michigan State of the State (SOTS) address by and the State of the Union (SOTU) address. Her state representative, Cara Clemente asked her to come to hear Gov. Rick Snyder’s speech and US Rep. Debbie Dingell invited her to see Donald Trump in Washington, DC.
Michigan United celebrates the bravery of the Garcia family whose pain is the truest demonstration of the destruction caused by a racist immigration system. For the first time since he’s been elected President, Donald Trump will have to come face to face with one of the victims of his soulless policies and try to explain them to her. But first, Gov. Snyder will have the opportunity to decide if he stands with Trump or his Michigan victims.
Michigan United is a broad, statewide coalition working to reform our broken immigration system, advance housing justice, protect the rights of low-wage workers and develop leadership. More information can be found at the Michigan United’s website: www.miunited.org
