Five Detroit nonprofits have been chosen as finalists in a competition for $50,000 in free business help, and now it’s up to each to see who can best tell their organization’s story in just five minutes.
The finalists are Clark Park Coalition, Build Institute, Detroit Horsepower, Mosaic Youth Theatre and the Detroit Food Academy. Representatives from each group will highlight the good that they do for the community during the March 15 Impact Squared Story Slam created by JFM Consulting Group.
The 6-8 p.m. event at the Gem Theatre in Detroit will be free and open to the public. Audience members along with judges will help pick three winners, who will each receive thousands of dollars’ worth of business help donated by multiple local small businesses.
The Detroit Food Policy Council, one of last year’s winners, was helped by three businesses with strategic planning, marketing and branding and fund development.
“Impact Squared has given us access to services and information that will help strengthen our organization as we continue our work to ensure that Detroit’s food system supports residents’ physical and economic health in an equitable way,” explained Winona Bynum, the program’s executive director. “It has also given us tools to connect more effectively with more Detroiters.”
Businesses that are providing services to the winning nonprofits are:
” Beyond a Logo
” The McMillion Group
” Christie S. Peck & Associates
” McConnell Communications
” Tellis & Company
” Trent Creative
“The Impact Squared Story Slam is a fun evening that shines a well-deserved light on the contributions of Detroit’s nonprofit community, and also highlights how committed our small businesses are to the city,” said Jane Fran Morgan, president of JFM Consulting. “Without them, Impact Squared would not be possible.”
