Well-renowned Pastor Bishop P.A. (Phillip Aquilla) Brooks dies at 88

Pastor Bishop P.A. (Phillip Aquilla) Brooks, 88, died on April 9th, Brooks son announced on social media via Facebook:

“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dad, Bishop P.A. Brooks. Bishop Brooks was loved by many and we are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love that you all have shared with myself and the Brooks Family. Due to our great loss, we have received many phone calls. We appreciate your love and support but were asking if you would just please pray for us at this moment. Talking is difficult right now, but we will update and share with you all in the days to come. The Brooks Family love each and everyone of you and we’re just asking that you please keep us lifted in prayer.”

As First Assistant Presiding Bishop and Prelate of the Historic Northeast First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Michigan, Brooks had the distinction as the longest-serving General Board Member in the Church Of God In Christ, Inc. – spanning over 40 years. Brooks also was the first Chief Adjutant of our denomination, appointed by the late Presiding Bishop J. O. Patterson, Sr.

Brooks was beloved and endeared throughout Christendom. Known as “Mr. Church Of God In Christ,” he ministered with dedication, devotion, and the spirit of excellence. He was the founder and pastor of the New St. Paul Tabernacle Church Of God In Christ for over 63 years. The longevity of his servitude extended from our founder, Bishop Charles Harrison Mason to our current Presiding Bishop, Bishop Charles Edward Blake, Sr.

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic resulting in local and state restrictions on public gatherings to achieve social distancing, the Brooks family will hold a private memorial service. When the restrictions are lifted, a date will be set for a National Memorial Service that will appropriately recognize the godly life and notable achievements of Bishop Phillip Aquilla Brooks.
