Wayne County Community College First Time Distance Learning Student

When Wayne County Community College District Distance Learning student Dorothy Henry decided to take online classes she knew it would take getting used to.  She wanted to try something different and to balance work and education. Here interest in computers was a perfect match. She is a high school graduate of Crockett Educational Center and is currently registered for four online courses.
Ms. Henry says when it comes to structuring her time; it takes a lot of discipline and to give at least two hours per week for each class.  She currently has English, Early Childhood Education, History and Psychology.
Ms. Henry definitely plans to continue the distance learning route; although she realizes that there will be a time when she will be required to take in-class courses.   She says, “She loves online learning.”  When asked about advice for students she says, “You definitely have to come up with your own plan and studying tool.  You have to be an independent learner and have some computer skills, and most importantly, you must read, read, read!”  She stressed writing notes and utilizing the resources that WCCCD has for online learning through Blackboard, using the Learning Resource Center and even viewing YouTube videos on how to study.
Ms. Henry says she would definitely recommend Distance Learning education and plans to complete her higher education degrees online.
