UNCF/DIAC HOSTS the 22nd ANNUAL DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION BREAKFAST

UNCF (United Negro College Fund) and the Detroit Inter-Alumni Council (DIAC) will commemorate one of its most famous alumni, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Morehouse College) at its 22nd Annual MLK, Jr. Birthday Celebration Breakfast.  The event will be held Monday, January 20th, 8:30 a.m. at the Shriners Silver Garden Events Center in Southfield at which the inaugural “Spirit of the Dream” award will be presented.  This award was created to recognize outstanding citizens in the community that are continuing the work and values of the movement for which Martin Luther King, Jr. championed and sacrificed his life.  This year’s award recipients include: Robert L. Bryant, Ed.D.; Beverly A. Gray, Ed.D.; Dolores J. Shepherd; and Huel Perkins.
Robert Thornton, Senior Program Officer from The Skillman Foundation will be the featured guest award presenter/speaker along with entertainment provided by accomplished vocalist Beth Griffith.   Tickets for the event are $40 and must be purchased prior to the day of the event.  Funds raised will benefit Detroit and Michigan students with scholarship opportunities.  For further information call the Michigan UNCF office at 313-873-1500.
