UAW-Ford Promotes Safety Awareness to Morningside Community

Highlights included safety drills, tutorials and giveaways
UAW-Ford hosted hundreds of children and adults from Detroit’s MorningSide Community for a safety awareness fair on July 2, at the Ronald Brown Academy in Detroit.
Several local businesses and community organizations collaborated with UAW-Ford for the fair — dubbed “Safety on the Rise” — to educate, create awareness, engage and inspire local residents to recognize and implement safety practices in their daily lives.
“Safety awareness leads to saving lives,” said UAW-Ford Vice President Jimmy Settles. “It gives us great satisfaction to bring this important program to the people who live in MorningSide community. Our goal is to help create healthy and safe neighborhoods for children and their families.”
UAW-Ford gave residents free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, child ID kits, safety coloring books and crayons. Several community groups also took part in the event and spoke to attendees. Among them:
Americorps — Vehicle etching
Detroit Fire Department — Fire safety
Detroit Police Department — Water safety
UAW-Ford has a long history of giving back to the communities in which it works. Last month, it hosted an opening day ceremony to unveil its work on the renovation of Balduck Park. In May, UAW-Ford hosted more than 300 Detroit high school student- athletes for a discussion on sportsmanship and responsibility.
“Ford Motor Company has always believed that by investing in the communities in which it works, it is investing in the future,” said Ford Motor Company Vice President of Labor Affairs Bill Dirksen. “You are never too old to learn proper safety. This event was beneficial to both children and adults.”
