NAACP Image Award winner will share his rags to riches story during a May 10 special event, with proceeds benefitting programs addressing vital human needs in Detroit
Acclaimed actor, director, screenwriter, producer, and author, Tyler Perry, will be the featured speaker at the Perfecting Community Development Corporation Platinum Gala on May 10 at the Marriott Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit. Pastor Marvin L. Winans of Perfecting Church will host the event.
Perry, who recently delivered a stirring acceptance speech during the NAACP Image Awards program, will share his story of going from homelessness to wealth and stardom.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Perfecting Community Development Corporation, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization, whose programs include providing food and clothing for people in need, and offering job training and financial literacy classes. Perfecting Community Development Corporation also partners and assists the efforts of other local community organizations including the Amelia Agnes Transitional Home for Women; The Heat And Warmth Fund (THAW) and United Way.
“I applaud the great work that Perfecting Community Development Corporation continues to do in the community,” said Louise Guyton, vice president of Public Affairs at Comerica Bank, a sponsor of the event.
“Bringing an internationally known celebrity like Tyler Perry to assist with the fundraising efforts should raise awareness of an organization that is committed to Detroit and stresses the importance of giving back to our community.”
The Platinum Gala will also feature entertainment by Grammy nominated singer Kim Burrell. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $200 and $500. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
