Last week, DJ Khaled went on MTV and said, “I’m gonna be honest, I love you, I like you. I want you, I want you to be mine,” he said. “I’m at MTV because it’s a worldwide network and I’m not telling you this face to face because I understand that you are busy. I’m [gonna] be honest with you, I wanna marry you. Nicki Minaj, will you marry me?” Now no one can confirm Nicki’s response to his proposal. She has been spotted wearing an engagement ring…just not Khaled’s. So while the world is on pins and needles awaiting her answer, I started thinking about the ideal marriage proposal.
My special someone thought it would be great to start a two-day fight with me before popping the question. It was definitely not ideal for those two days, but the proposal at Campus Martius with the water fountain and lights in the background was amazing.
However, celebrities with more money than what should be legal have their own creative ways to propose.
Chad Ochocinco to Evelyn Lozada
We all know how this ended, but in the beginning when the love was flowing, NFL player Chad Ochocinco (now Johnson again) proposed to “Basketball Wives” Evelyn Lozada while playing video games. Lozada told Yahoo! that a jeweler came to their home, where she picked out a ring — still unaware they were getting engaged — and Ochocinco said, “Alright, so we’re engaged.”

Jeff Miranda to Snooki
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi received an awkward proposal from ex-boyfriend Jeff Miranda in 2010: he posed shirtless for the cover of Steppin’ Out magazine with the headline “Will you marry me?” plastered across the page. Snooki wasn’t ready for the housewife lifestyle, so she tweeted later that week that she was still single and not marrying any time soon. That changed this year when new boyfriend Jionni LaValle — who is also her ex-boyfriend’s cousin — dropped to one knee and presented Snooki with a more than 5-karat ring.

LL Cool J to Simone Smith
Rapper LL Cool J proposed to his high school sweetheart Simone Smith (then Johnson) while driving in a Jeep. He didn’t have a ring, and didn’t even use the expected “Will you marry me?” Instead, the rapper asked Simone, “Do you wanna do this?” She agreed and they married in 1995.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith
Men in Black actor Will Smith decided to keep things simple when he proposed to his now wife of 16 years, Jada Pinkett Smith. He described the moment to People magazine in 2005: “We were just lying there, going to sleep. I looked over at her, and I said, ‘You wanna marry me?’ Unplanned. No ring. Not the classic proposal.” He added, “When you live the kind of lifestyle that we live, simplicity becomes the jewel.”

Pink and Carey Hart
Always one to stand out of the crowd, pop singer Pink proposed to motorcycle racer Carey Hart during one of his races in Mammoth Lakes, California. The award-winning artist held up a pit-board on which she had written the words “Will you marry me?” When Carey completed another lap without stopping, Pink changed the words on the sign to “I’m serious!” Carey promptly pulled out of the race and picked her up.
