The Links Inc. delivers on commitment to ongoing Flint Water Crisis

the-velvelettesThe Links, Incorporated will continue their initiative and deliver on its promise to keep the Flint water crisis at the nation’s forefront with their drive to raise monies to provide financial support for children who have been impacted by lead exposure due to the Flint water crisis.
On Saturday, October 22, 2016, The Links, Incorporated National President Glenda Newell-Harris, M.D. will travel to Michigan to join The Links, Incorporated Michigan Chapters Unite for Flint Kids fundraising event along with The Links, Incorporated Central Area Director Glenda Masingale-Manson. The fundraising event is a concert and dance that will benefit much-needed services required for critical public health, medical, community-based and intervention programs that address and mitigate the short and long-term impacts experienced by many Flint (MI) children exposed to lead as a result of the ongoing Flint water crisis.
Earlier in the day, at approximately 1 p.m., the National President, Glenda Newell-Harris, M.D., will travel to Flint to tour the Hurley Medical Center and meet with Hurley Medical Center CEO Melany Gavulic, along with members of the Flint Area (MI) Chapter. Dr. Newell-Harris is the 16th national president of the organization and the first physician elected to lead the 70-year-old women’s organization. Her visit to Flint represents the commitment from The Links, Incorporated and the collaborative work focused on transforming the lives of children with sustainable solutions that impact their current and future health and wellness. In the summer, The Links, Incorporated distributed large antibacterial body wipes, ointment, hand sanitizer and 400 shower filters to the residents of River Park and Atherton East Townhouses.
WHAT: To highlight The Links, Incorporated commitment to Flint, Dr. Newell-Harris, on behalf of The Links Foundation, Incorporated, will present a check with funds donated by the national members to the Hurley Medical Center; and the Michigan Chapters will announce the fundraising donation from The Links, Incorporated Michigan Chapters Unite for Flint Kids event.

The Links, Incorporated Michigan Chapters Unite for Flint Kids fundraising concert and dance will feature guest recording artists:

  • Saxophonist Randy Scott,
  • R&B Singer Millie Scott and
  • Motown’s The Velvelettes.
  • After the concert, attendees will dance the night away to DJ Mike Two Mike.
