Shimmer on the River, the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy’s largest annual fundraiser, is returning Thursday, June 23rd from 6-10 p.m. and will transform the Detroit Riverfront into a family fun fair and carnival, featuring a private concert by “The World’s Greatest Party Band,” the B-52s. Presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, the fundraiser will help kick-off the whole GM River Days weekend of fun on the Detroit Riverfront.
Hundreds of business and community leaders, families and young professionals will gather together for an unforgettable evening of music, performance art, gourmet bites, traditional festival food, and free carnival rides. All of the proceeds from Shimmer will support the Conservancy’s continued transformation of Detroit’s Riverfront into a beautiful, safe and accessible world-class gathering space for all. A VIP cocktail reception earlier in the evening will also mark the successful completion of the Conservancy’s $140 million East Riverfront fundraising campaign with a champagne toast to all who provided support.
“We’re bringing Shimmer on the River back this year with a huge splash, and we couldn’t think of a better location than outdoors right along the riverfront, the very place we’re supporting and celebrating,” said William Smith, CFO, Detroit RiverFront Conservancy. “This summer marks a decade since the opening of the first section of RiverWalk and just seeing the amount of Detroiters, young and old, and visitors who’ve embraced this destination inspires us to work harder to raise the funds we need to continue the progress along the West Riverfront.”
During this year’s celebration, the Conservancy will honor past President & CEO, Faye Alexander Nelson and pay tribute (posthumously) to past Board Vice-Chair David K. Page with the 2016 Shimmer Award for their longtime support of the riverfront. Both honorees have been a crucial part of the development of the riverfront since the Conservancy’s formation in 2003.
Tickets are now available for this spectacular evening and include: VIP at $250 each, which allows admission to the cocktail reception at 5 p.m.; General Admission at $150 each, which allows admission at 6 p.m. Each ticket includes admission for two children. All guests will receive access to the private B-52s concert, food and family fun.
