He may be gone, but Teddy Pendergrass is certainly not forgotten as plans are set to honor him posthumously with the upcoming album, “Duets Love & Soul.”
SoulTracks.com reports the Cleopatra Records offering will pair the late R&B legend with various artists and include recordings of Pendergrass’ classic hits that were remade by the entertainer during the final years of his life.
Duet partners, who were added by Cleopatra president Brian Perera, include Jody Watley, The Stylistics, Martha Reeves, The Ohio Players and Angie Stone, who is featured on the lead single from the project, a duet of Pendergrass’ “Love TKO.” Although SoulTracks praised Stone’s contribution to the track and closely follows the arrangement of the original version of “Love TKO” it pointed out that it features “an older, less powerful-voiced Pendergrass singing lead.”
“Duets Love & Soul” is scheduled to be released on August 21. To hear the remake of “Love TKO,” click on the audio below and weigh in on whether or not it can hold its own against the original version:
