so, what are my tax dollars paying for? No one pays taxes to dodge
bullets!
It all signals that we have reached a tipping point where we must
demand that accountability be given for yet another life cut
tragically short.
The fact that we can tick off their names like days of the days of the
week – Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Laquan
McDonald, Eric Harris, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray, Sandra Bland –
should be alarming!
And now we must add to the list Philando Castile whose shooting was broadcast on Facebook during a traffic stop in a Falcon Heights Minnesota neighborhood as he reached for his identification and Alton Sterling, killed by police while selling CDs and DVDs in front of a Baton Rouge, Louisiana convenience store!
As I watch the late Mr. Sterling’s young son, Cameron barely able to catch his breath between heartbreaking sobs, I ask myself – when will the blood on our streets and on these officers’ hands be enough to call for justice?
How many more must we eulogize?How many more protests, candle light vigils, and incendiary videos must we view on a continuous cable news loop?
How many more sons, daughters, mothers and fathers must die or cry before we can truly say black lives matter – and mean it?
What would justice look like then?
