Seventh Annual ‘You Are The Gift’ Conference For Girls

yatg 2009 me and girls on stageWitness lives change at the seventh annual “You are the Gift: Loving Me!” conference. This special event will bring together over 200 girls, 11-16, their parents and professionals that serve them to explore and celebrate self-esteem and confidence.

A special panel is lined up to address the major issues hindering girls from loving themselves and offering solutions on how to rise above them.

The emcee will be the Anqunette Jamison, from Fox 2 News. Numerous other inspirational women like Reneé Beavers and Denitra Townsend will also share their success stories during their individual workshops.

Girls in this age group, especially in high-risk urban environments like Detroit, are at their most impressionable and insecure. “You are the Gift” is the seventh annual conference planned by Helping Individuals Succeed Agency president Derschaun Sharpley. In the jam-packed day girls will be inspired, being taught in the areas of self-worth, communication, relationships, financial stewardship, health and fitness, etiquette, peer pressure, and inner and outer beauty.

Hands-on workshops and labs will include Zumba, cooking demonstrations, a spa zone with mini-makeovers and manicures and more. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as prizes. Every girl will receive a goodie bag filled with beauty products and other goodies.

The event will take place at Wayne State University’s Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 259 Mack Ave., on Saturday, August 16, from 8:30 am to 3 pm. Special thanks to all sponsors for making this event possible.
