Today, Rep. Rudy Hobbs (D-Southfield) met a major fundraising target with the announcement that he has raised over $100,000 for his 2014 Congressional run. His campaign reported nearly $110,000 cash on hand for the quarterly period ending June 30th.
Hobbs quickly established himself as the clear frontrunner in Michigan’s 14th District race, securing early key endorsements from the longtime U.S. Congressman from Oakland County, Sander Levin, and former Lieutenant Governor John Cherry.
“I’m ready to get to work in Washington,” said Hobbs. “And I’m up to the task of serving each and every family across Greater Detroit with the same dedication and passion I have as a legislator in the Michigan House, as a teacher and as a father. Together, we have taken our first big step in moving our region forward.”
Hobbs was first elected to the Michigan Legislature in 2010 as representative of Michigan’s 35th District, and quickly ascended to leadership as Assistant Democratic Floor Leader of the Michigan House during his first term. By his second term, Hobbs became Democratic Floor Leader and the second highest-ranking representative in the caucus.
Such leadership credentials have aided Hobbs in establishing strong momentum in his Congressional race, and also in building a skilled campaign team. Earlier in June, Hobbs announced he had hired political veterans Jamaine Dickens and Diana McBroom, who lead Rep. Gary Peters’ successful Congressional campaign efforts in 2012.
“Since announcing on May 15th, we worked tirelessly to ensure our campaign has an immovable foundation and firm footing. Today, we proved that our hard work is paying off,” said Hobbs. “I am thankful for the outpouring of support we’ve received from our friends across Greater Detroit, and I vow to be unyielding in my pursuit of more jobs for our working families, better schools for our children and stronger communities across the 14th District.”
