DETROIT (WWJ) – Police are investigating a break in at Congressman Hansen Clarke’s offices in Detroit.
Clarke (D-Mich.) said thieves apparently got in Wednesday night by jimmying a lock– and took thousands of dollars worth of stuff– including laptops, a blackberry, camcorders and a camera.
“I was born and raised in Detroit and I’ve been broken into in my personal residence when I was growing up,” said Clark. “My concern was for the people who worked in this office. I mean, they were pretty shooken up when they walked in to see that their offices had been gone through and ransacked.”
Clarke’s offices share a Greektown building with other businesses and Fishbones restaurant, but his offices were the only one targeted.
Clarke, a Democrat, said he believes the crime may have been politically motivated as a wallet and checkbook in a ransacked room were left untouched.
Detroit police are reviewing surveillance video as an investigation continues.
