Reflections: Outstanding

MICHELLE WILLIAMS, formerly of Destiny’s Child, is establishing herself as a solid and respected actress. In early February she will be heading to New York for a starring role on Broadway in “Chicago.”

Williams previously appeared in that same show in London. She is the first Black woman to ever portray Roxie Hart in “Chicago.” (Renee Zellweger played the part in the movie version.)

Before she got the great opportunity to join Destiny’s Child, Williams was a background singer for Monica, and before that was a member of a group called United Harmony.

MEANWHILE, the eccentric, attention-grabbing Erykah Badu is gearing up for the Feb. 23 release of her new album, oddly yet not surprisingly titled “New Amerykah, Part II: Return of the Ankh.”

Just a thought: Maybe a few albums with simpler titles might be a good thing.

“This album is the sister of the left side of my brain,” said Badu.

Whatever that means.

Despite all of the controversy, and the fact that some exposure outlets are no longer open to him, Chris Brown still managed to sell 102,000 copies of his new album,  “Graffiti,” in the first week of its release. Like we told you before, it’s a good album.

There is always debate when someone is labeled better than everyone else at a particular thing. A writer for Rolling Stone magazine identified Jay-Z as “the world’s greatest rapper.” (Maybe he is.)

Speaking of rap, hopefully Nas will not run out of money anytime soon. A Los Angeles judge ordered him to pay $51,101 a month to singer Kelis, who will soon be his ex-wife, and their son. That’s up from $40,000. (That seems like an excessive amount.)

Mariah Carey will start her first tour in three years on Dec. 31 at Madison Square Garden. The show comes to the Fox Theater on Jan. 25.
