PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Pittsburgh’s mayor says the city will receive $10 million in gambling tax money through this year and at least next year under a deal with Rivers Casino.
Mayor Bill Peduto announced the stopgap measure on Monday, saying it closes a large budget shortfall.
The Democrat says the city has reduced its workforce by 25 percent in recent years and that $10 million covers more than 200 positions. He says another such reduction would hinder the city’s ability to serve its residents.
The Peduto administration says it’ll release more details about the agreement later this week.
The state Supreme Court ruled in September that the formula that determines how much casinos must pay their host communities was unconstitutional.
Casino officials couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
