The conversations between previous generations and their parents typically ended with, “Get a job or go to college.” The in-between periods of life that strike once either destiny comes true is what no one honestly talks about. Dealing with friendships evolving, personal finances, and more are often forgotten about in the quest for offspring to become better than their parents.
Abayomi CDC (Community Development Corporation), a human services nonprofit organization, wants to help ease the burden of early adulthood by introducing The Up Next! Conference: Real-World Ready. The conference will feature workshops and conversations centered around preparing high school students for the real world. There will be food and giveaways for everyone present. Nonprofit organization RAWS will be attending as well as keynote speaker Danielle Hughes. Both RAWS founder Kady Cox and Danielle Hughes work with youth daily, helping them to unlock their true potential and become productive citizens in society.
Started by Tawnya Morris in 1998, Abayomi CDC is dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and families in Northwest and metropolitan Detroit. They provide community and economic development, education, and recreation programs year-round. The name “Abayomi,” derives from the Yoruba tribe in West Africa, meaning “a pleasant meeting place.”
The Up Next! Conference will take place on February 22 at the New St. Mark Family Life Center from 9 AM to 4 PM. The event is free, but spots are filling up fast. To apply, CLICK HERE.
