A University of Zurich researcher team led by Frank Rühli, the director of the Institute of Evolutionary Medicine believe they have found remains they believe are of the Queen Nefertari in a tomb in the Valley of the Queens.
Queen Nefertari was one of the wives of Ramesses the Great during the 19th Dynasty from 1279 to 1213 B.C. She is one of the most famous Egyptian queens.
The tomb was discovered in 1904 and was in disarray due to tomb robbers. The reamins consists of leg bones, including a part of the femur.
The mummy is being preserved at the Egyptian Mueseum in Turin, Italy.
Rühli said, although “no absolute certainty exists, the most likely scenario is that the mummified knees truly belong to Queen Nefertari.”
