Molina Healthcare moves to downtown Detroit

Ribbon Cutting - DetroitCalifornia headquartered Molina Healthcare celebrated its brand new downtown Detroit location at its ribbon cutting ceremony this week.

City officials and community leaders joined the company’s CFO, John Molina, in celebrating the move and presenting a grant to Gleaners Community Food Bank.

“Molina Healthcare is thrilled about the opening of our new office location in downtown Detroit, which has enabled us to bring 125 new jobs to the city,” said Stephen Harris, president of Molina Healthcare of Michigan.

Moving in the former building occupied by The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press, Molina showcased the renovated floors in its new office. Attendees were shown the building’s floor plans, company promotional information and more.

The once classified “small business” has experienced much growth in recent years.

“Additionally, a substantial number of our members are located in Detroit, so it is important for us to have a greater presence where our members live and work,” said Harris.

According to Bedrock Real Estate Services officials the goal of the renovation is to restore the integrity and style of designer Albert Khan’s iconic building.

“The building was designed by architect Robert Khan in 1985,” said Bedrock.

Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Jim Ketai. We thought it would be fitting to actually hire Albert Khan as the architect, so that is the firm we used to come in and help us and Molina with what they did with their space.”

After months of convincing, Bedrock and Molina agreed to terms in 2014. The healthcare provider was lured to invest in the resurgence of downtown.

“We are so glad to welcome Molina to downtown Detroit,” said Ketai.
