Dr. V. Kwasi Owusu Nyame

Dr. V. Kwasi Owusu Nyame is the chief neurosurgery resident at the Detroit Medical Center. He has been at the DMC practicing neurosurgery for 7 years and was promoted to chief resident in 2014, after completing a neurosurgical oncology fellowship at The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
Dr. Nyame directs the care of traumatic brain injury patients at Detroit Receiving Hospital in conjunction with the neurointensivists. He dedicates 50% of his time to teaching surgical and neurology residents as well as medical students at Wayne State and Michigan State University. He is the author of several peer-reviewed journal papers in the field of nanotechnology and neurosurgery. He has conducted and presented research at international neurosurgical meetings in the field of pediatric neurosurgery.
He is a leader in the many organizations which he is a part of and performs weekly volunteer service for the city of Detroit. He is an active member of the Detroit Medical Society, Omega Psi Phi and the Student National Medical Association.
He credits much of his success to his family and the residents of Detroit.
