Mayor Duggan and PLA to celebrate completion of citywide relighting project

Mayor Mike Duggan and the Public Lighting Authority of Detroit (PLA) will celebrate the completion of the installation of 65,000 LED streetlights across the city. Over three years of intense work, these new brighter, more energy efficient and more reliable lights have replaced a system that was antiquated and often out of service, with more than 40 percent of the street lights not working.
The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, in a heated tent at the intersection of Riopelle and Atwater in downtown Detroit. Remarks begin at 4:30 p.m.
