JVS + Kadima to Offer Free Drop-in Job Search Assistance in May, June

JVS + Kadima and its computer training division, the Hermelin ORT Resource Center, 29699 Southfield Road in Southfield, will have free drop-in sessions for metro Detroiters looking to use a computer as part of their job search. In addition, JVS staff will be on-site and available to assist with resumes, cover letters, job searches, LinkedIn setup and to help complete online job applications.

The initiative is part of a pilot program aimed at increasing access to computers for job seekers. Sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday in May and June, beginning May 3. No registration is necessary and job seekers can just drop-in.

“Though it seems that jobs are bountiful, for people without access to a computer, internet and other technology, opportunities to apply for employment are very limited,” said Director of Business and Career Services at JVS + Kadima Jason Charnas. He added that while local libraries might have computers available, staff are not normally trained to provide advice on resumes, cover letters and other elements of a successful job search.

“With our new program, we are excited to seamlessly connect job seekers with easily accessible technology plus the expertise of our staff to advise them on the application processes,” said Charnas.

For those needing more detailed career guidance and job seeing advice, assistance is available by emailing employmenthelp@jvshumanservices.org.
