Personal Statement
A dream does not turn into reality through magic ; it takes sweat, determination and hard work. Success requires 99 %percent perspirations and 1 %percent inspiration. Success is the result of hard work, learning from your mistakes, loyalty, persistence and perfection. Thomas Edison has once said, “ There is no substitute for hard work”. It reminds me of a time when I was younger. I played chess competitively, growing up playing a sport in which many African American girls did not play especially from Detroit, many viewed me and my fellow teammates as inferior opponents who were not going anywhere in life. For years me and my teamed studied and practiced chess from sun up to sun down until we were too tired to lift another chess piece. Our hard work and determination has resulted in my team and I to become National chess champions, becoming Michigan’s top ranked female players and being one of the most feared players in chess.
