Tirelessly working on the front lines since mid-March, healthcare workers have been essential in helping heal persons infected with the coronavirus. Now, they’re getting top priority.
Healthcare workers will be the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine after it is confirmed safe and effective, according to Michigan’s interim state plan.
The plan is designed in three phases based on level of priority (susceptibility to COVID-19).
Phase One:
- Healthcare officials
- Adults 65+
- Anyone with underlying chronic health conditions
- Residents or workers at long-term care facilities
- Residents or workers at homeless shelters
- Prisoners or prison officials
Phase Two:
- Essential workers (workers at grocery stores, food distribution centers, etc)
- Anyone who lives within a high-risk population
Phase Three:
- General public
The vaccines will be distributed in stages. Hospitals will be the first to get the vaccine, followed by health clinics, medical offices and pharmacies. In the care that the vaccine requires a second shot, health care officials will mail or text a reminder to patients.
