- More than 700 Class of 2016 Detroit High School graduates are now attending Community College or University thanks to the Detroit Promise
- Governor and Mayor to officially launch Detroit Promise registration period for Class of 2017
The Detroit Promise is a partnership between the Detroit Promise Zone Authority and the Michigan Education Excellence Foundation, and is administered by the Detroit Regional Chamber. This event will mark the official start of the 2017 Detroit Promise registration process.
In 2011, Governor Rick Snyder announced his intention to provide Detroit High School graduates with a tuition-free path to an associate degree or technical certificate. Since 2013, the Detroit Regional Chamber has administered the Detroit Promise, which is funded by the Michigan Education Excellence Foundation to fulfill the Governor’s pledge. In March 2016, Mayor Mike Duggan launched the Detroit Promise Zone Authority, to permanently dedicate a portion of tax dollars generated by that entity to funding two-year scholarships for all future Detroit High-School graduates.
