Jerrell Harris
Jerrell took a non-linear path to his current position as Director of Restructuring and Transformation in the City of Detroit Mayor’s office. He started his professional career at leading universities working in student affairs, then transitioned to urban planning for local governments.
He later moved to private real estate development, and then on to affordable housing preservation. Originally from Albany, Georgia, he received his bachelors in Sociology and masters in Urban Policy Studies from Georgia State University. In 2013, Jerrell moved to Detroit to be a Revitalization Fellow at Focus: HOPE as their Placemaking and Planning Manager. He worked to create a comprehensive vision for physical redevelopment in the 100-block HOPE Village area while developing innovative strategies to encourage housing rehabilitation, blight elimination and new construction. A knack for removing barriers and eliminating inefficiencies makes Jerrell a natural community development advocate.
He strongly believes that where and how you live are huge determinants of future success. For fun, Jerrell enjoys traveling, spending time with his family, and being an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
