Bennie Tolbert
Energetic, outgoing and highly motivated are just a few words that describe Bennie Jamal Earl Tolbert. Bennie began his career at the Detroit Medical Center Emergency Department where he helped introduce mobile payment capabilities to reduce the risk of financial loss for the company. The result of this innovative idea was a promotion to work with the CFO as a data analyst.
While at DMC he was recruited by Conrad Mallett to help oversee the implementation of the new Sinai Grace Hospital Central Call Center with Strategic Staffing Solutions. From this opportunity he became the Project Coordinator overseeing one of Strategic Staffing Solutions largest customers. After joining Mayor Michael Duggan’s staff in 2014, Bennie rose from being the Lean Six Sigma Process Improvement Manager to his current role as Project Manager overseeing the implementation of the Human Resource Information System (HRIS)upgrade. With this new upgrade the current paper process that exists within HR will now be housed in a cloud base software. This is the first project of this magnitude implemented for the City of Detroit.Over the course of his career Bennie has earned certifications which include Black Belt Lean Six Sigma, Project Management Professional (PMP), University of Michigan- Toyota KATA Certified and Certified Contingent Workforce Professional (CCWP). Bennie plans to use these skill sets to one day serve as President & CEO of a major hospital system.
In the community, Tolbert serves on the boards of the Young Patrons Committee for Michigan Opera Theater and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Ambassador Board. He is also the owner and operator of Blue Jet Moving and Hauling; a company he started at the age of 19. Bennie is grateful to be a part of the revitalization of the City of Detroit as an entrepreneur and an employee. He looks forward to opportunities to further serve the City that he loves.
