During these unprecedented times, Ford Fund remains committed to investing in students by providing educational opportunities for Metro Detroit area youth.
Recent events have fundamentally affected how we are connecting as people. The graduation season, normally one of the most celebrated times of the year, has been impacted by all members of the class of 2020. Yet through it all, Ford remains committed to our youth by continuing to provide financial support to those in pursuit of higher education.
This year, 43 Metro Detroit high school seniors will benefit from Ford Motor Company’s Blue Oval Scholarships which were awarded to students virtually by Shawn Thompson, community development manager, Ford Motor Company Fund.
The Ford Blue Oval Scholarship program aims to address the nearly 20 percent high school drop-out rate by awarding scholarships to seniors attending high schools in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties. The goal is to help students continue their education by attending college, technical school, a training program, or an alternative education program.
Blue Oval Scholarships encourage students to show improvement in academic achievement and overall school performance and to pursue their post-secondary goals. In the eleven-year history of the program, Ford has awarded over $1 million in scholarships to assist over 1,200 Detroit-area high school graduates with tuition, books, fees, and other educational costs.
Scholarship winners are selected based on academic achievement, demonstrated a desire to succeed, and/or their perseverance in overcoming hardships, and financial need.
