DWSD mobilizes city-wide effort to address flooding

The Detroit Water & Sewerage Department is responding to the recent flash flood which resulted in an overflow of water on city streets primarily on Detroit’s lower eastside. Efforts are underway by DWSD that is mobilizing with the Great Lakes Water Authority , Detroit Public Works and General Services Department to evaluate and repair problems which include replacement of manhole covers. Several vactor trucks from DWSD as well as Oakland County are on the scene pumping out the water and cleaning street surfaces.

According to GLWA, all equipment and pump station systems were functioning properly and were at full capacity during the flooding however, the immense volume of rainwater was too great. DWSD crews and emergency contractors will remain at the sites until the streets are cleared of water and debris.
