All students who attend school on Count Day, Feb. 11 will receive TWO FREE TICKETS to attend Monster Jam at Ford Field
DETROIT – Building upon Detroit Public Schools’ year-round initiatives focusing on the importance of daily school attendance, the district today is announcing a unique opportunity to allow students to attend Monster Jam on February 28, 2015 if they attend school on Count Day, Wednesday, February 11.
DPS has partnered with Feld Entertainment, Inc. to help boost attendance rates district-wide through an exclusive collaboration where all students who attend school on Count Day will receive two free tickets to attend Monster Jam at Ford Field.
While the district stresses the importance of attendance year-round, with the implementation of a new attendance policy in 2013 and ongoing initiatives and attendance challenges at all schools, attendance on fall and winter Count Days is extremely important to districts statewide as each student counted contributes to per pupil funding.
“While DPS emphasizes throughout the year that students have to be on time and in school every day all day, we appreciate strategic partnerships with organizations like Feld Entertainment, Inc. that offer a fun and creative way to engage students and drive home the importance of attendance,” said Karen Ridgeway, Superintendent of Academics.
According to news reports, state education officials are launching a campaign later this year that will “use humor to drive home just how important it is for kids to be engaged in school. The campaign — launching initially in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties — will come with a video game that has a twist: Getting to the next level will require a student to do well in school.”
DPS has hosted similar attendance challenges with organizations including Get Schooled and Viacom where students participate in online social media contests to track their attendance rates, take part in educational scavenger hunts, engage in online chat groups about college readiness, and more, for a chance to win prizes such as celebrity visits and in-school celebratory events.
For fall Count Day 2014, Feld Entertainment, Inc. offered another DPS-exclusive attendance incentive where all Pre-K-6 schools were invited to participate in an Attendance Challenge presented by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. The elementary school with the highest attendance rate from Count Day, Oct. 1, 2014 through Nov. 1, 2014 received free tickets to attend the world-renowned circus performance “Built to Amaze” and special on-stage access during the event on Nov. 13, 2014 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. All Pre-K-6 students district-wide with perfect attendance for the full month received free tickets and all other students (and family members/friends) received discounted tickets for the show designated as “DPS Night at the Circus.” The winning school also enjoyed an in-school assembly on Nov. 12 with the Ringling Bros. circus performers to kick off a new CircusFit Challenge Program.
“After the success of the Ringling attendance program it only made sense to involve our Motor Sports division and the Monster Jam event to provide even more incentives to local kids for attending class,” said Jamie Jakacki-Valdez, Event Marketing and Sales Director, Feld Motor Sports.
