DMC Detroit Receiving hospitals is once again taking honors in multiple specialties and overall quality in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals edition for 2013-14.
Best Hospitals report recognizes hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients, and is widely regarded as a standard of excellence in patient care.
Death rates, patient safety, and hospital reputation were a few of the factors considered. Only148 hospitals were nationally ranked in one or more specialties. DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital received high honors in multiple specialties.
“This is a direct reflection of the rigorous commitment to quality care and patient safety, that Receiving employees have,” said Iris Taylor, PhD, president, DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital. “This is a great example of why Detroit Receiving is a leader in healthcare.”
In addition to receiving honors in multiple specialties, Receivng was the 14th ranked hospital overall in Michigan. This year’s ranking is an improvement over being ranked 15th in the the state in 2012 and 17th in 2011.

For the past 24 years U.S. News has publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of other health problemsor age. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, theadequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankingsin most specialties.
The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International; a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. using the same data, U.S.News produced the state and metro rankings.
