Detroit Nonprofit Continues to Fight for Black Males

Real Life 101, a 501(c)(3) organization, provides college scholarships for selected inner city, African American males who are graduating from high school. The organization, founded in 2000, has awarded more than 500 scholarships and over 1500 laptop computers to inner city African American males through of the city of Detroit and across the world.  Saturday, June 6, 2015 Real Life 101 will continue the fight for black males at their 16^th Annual Awards Gala at MGM Grand Ballroom in Detroit.
 
Real Life is a national program with the mission to improve the negative statistics relative to African American males in America. Each scholarship student receives the following:
 
The opportunity to obtain a degree of his choice (in up to 5 years)
An annual scholarship of $1,000 for up to five years
A laptop computer equipped with software
A computer backpack
A certified Real Life Mentor for up to 5 years while in the Real Life program
 
“The ultimate goal for Real Life 101 is to see the troubling statistics for young African American male’s change, along with the goal of seeing these young men obtain their de​gree or develop a certification in a designated skill,” said Sid E. Taylor. “We also have plans to expand to every state in America in order to have a measurable impact on this pervasive problem with black males in America.”
