Detroit Department of Neighborhoods assists with beautification in District 1

The City’s Department of Neighborhoods, General Motors employees and Motor City Grounds Crew, along with a coalition of organizations with about 90 volunteers, will work together to clean and board up 75 properties along Evergreen Road between Eight Mile and the I-96 Freeway.  The volunteers plan to beautify the area by planting shrubs, flowers and trees and constructing benches at bus stops.
In 2015, the Department of Neighborhoods provided plywood for community organizations and residents to board up 1416 vacant buildings.  This continuing effort is part of the Duggan Administration’s commitment to improving neighborhoods by partnering with community organizations and businesses to address blight.

Friday, Sept. 16, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Volunteers will meet at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 19800 Pembroke at Evergreen.
