- Clearing of 1,800 miles of side streets to begin by 6 AM
- Residents urged to not park on streets if possible
At 4 P.M. on Sunday the City of Detroit’s DPW instructed the cIty’s six residential street plowing contractors to begin plowing once Sunday’s snow storm substantially ended. The snow was forecast to continue falling until approximately 4 A.M., Monday. DPW Director Ron Brundidge expects contractors to be mobilized and begin plowing by 6 A.M. Under the contract with the city, private crews have 16 hours to complete their work once they begin plowing.
On Sunday, crews cleaedr a least a 10-foot path to allow vehicles to pass. To avoid being plowed in and to make work easier for snow removal crews, residents are urged to not park their cars on side streets if possible.
The Detroit Department of Public Works continued to service streets around the clock to help keep roads safe for travel. At 2:00 AM, DPW began its cleanup effort with 50 trucks (24 of them new) plowing and salting 673 miles of major roads and streets in the city.
The city also had six residential street plowing contractors on standby to be dispatched once the snowfall stops if at least six inches of snow accumulates. The contractors have 24 hours to complete clearing of their assigned areas.
DPW continues to monitor the weather and our road conditions and should conditions change, will supply updates throughout the day as deemed necessary.
