In an inspiring move to amplify the message of early breast cancer detection, particularly among Black and other minority women, Detroit’s very own Tyrik Davis and Denthea Clingman, in collaboration with The American Cancer Society, are unveiling their Dare to be /yer’self/ & Dare to be /fe’male/ campaigns and presenting Dare to Be /cured/ in light of Breast Cancer awareness month.
October, widely recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is a crucial period when communities and organizations come together to raise awareness about the disease and stress the importance of early detection. For Davis and Clingman, it’s not just about raising awareness but also giving back. They have pledged to donate a percentage of their sales from the Dare to be /cured/ campaign directly to The American Cancer Society.
Their retail initiative is stylish, fresh, and purpose-driven, offering a range of clothing items. The collection includes three distinct short-sleeve T-shirts, available in various colors, setting the stage for individuals to make a statement. In addition, the lineup boasts a classic crewneck, a chic hoodie featuring satin in its hood, snug beanies with a satin touch, and versatile baseball caps. Each piece is not just a fashion statement, but a beacon of hope and a symbol of support for those battling cancer and their families.
Breast cancer remains one of the most diagnosed cancers among women in the U.S., and early detection can be life-saving. Davis and Clingman’s campaign endeavors to drive home the importance of regular check-ins with physicians and the necessity of staying informed and proactive about one’s health, especially for Black and other minority women who often face disparities in healthcare access and outcomes.
As the campaign progresses and October nears its end, Davis, Clingman, and all their supporters will gather to celebrate their efforts and reaffirm their commitment to the cause. An event is slated for October 25, 2023, at the renowned Sloppy Crab, located at 519 E Jefferson Ave, Detroit. From 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, attendees can revel in the unity of purpose, and a portion of the total Sloppy Crab bill from the evening will further bolster the donation to The American Cancer Society.

The fight against breast cancer requires collective effort, awareness, and support. This collaboration between Detroit’s own, The American Cancer Society, and all who choose to wear their support on their sleeves, quite literally, is a testament to the power of community engagement and the difference it can make.
