On Monday, January 13, 2014, “Design by Detroit,” one of the premiere events during the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), laid out the Red Carpet for Detroit’s best and brightest for the second consecutive year. The event was held at Shinola, a swank-upscale shop located in the heart of Midtown. Shinola is quickly becoming the go-to place for American-made, modern, handcrafted watches, bicycles, leather goods and journals.
The evening bookmarked the end to a big day for General Motors. The Automaker set the tone for the day when it swept top honors with the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray winning the North American Car of the Year and the Chevrolet Silverado taking home the North American Truck of the Year. That spirit of celebration and appreciation for art and design continued with a check presentation at the Design by Detroit event to Arts and Scraps, a non-profit local organization that uses recycled industrial materials to help people of all ages and abilities think, create and learn.
