Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Southfield Alumnae Chapter to host 5th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Forum

Southfield, Michigan — The Southfield Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST-SAC) will host its 5^th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Forum on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Oakland Community College on the Orchard Ridge Campus located at 27055 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills, Michigan. This year’s event will focus on Human Trafficking. Deborah Carley, Division Chief: Children and Youth Services Division, Attorney General’s Office; Erynn Edwards, Program Assistant for Alternatives For Girls; and Officer Robert Kane, Detroit Police Department Sex Crimes will serve as panelists leading the discussion on Human Trafficking.
“Raising awareness and educating the community about human trafficking is important because it is having a direct impact on women, children and men around the world,” says Nicole Allen, Chair, DST-SAC Domestic Violence/Sexual Violence Awareness Committee. “Enslavement and violence against anyone is completely unacceptable and we hope forums such as this will educate and also provide resources for those in need.”
“Human trafficking is on the rise and we should not operate as if it does not happen right here in our own communities,” says Tracey Knox, Co-Chair, DST-SAC Domestic Violence/Sexual Violence Awareness Committee. “We hope this forum will encourage all to be proactive on working to put human trafficking to an end.”
This year’s forum occurs during National Domestic Violence Awareness month and is done in partnership with the Sigma Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Oakland Community College Women Center. The event is free and open to the public.
