CCS and Apple Launch Free Coding Program to Empower Detroiters

The College for Creative Studies is teaming up with Apple to bring a powerful tech opportunity to the heart of Detroit. This fall, CCS will launch the Apple Foundation Program, a free app development course designed to make coding more accessible to metro Detroiters, no tech background required.

Set to begin in October 2025 at CCS’s A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education, the program introduces participants to the world of coding using Swift, Apple’s programming language. The course also dives into the fundamentals of app design, giving students hands-on experience that could unlock doors to careers in tech, design and digital innovation. Best of all? It’s free, and that includes Apple laptops and devices provided for use during the program.

The Apple Foundation Program is designed with flexibility in mind. Courses run for one month at a time with both daytime and evening sessions available, making it easier for working adults, creatives and career changers to fit tech education into their lives. Whether you’re a budding entrepreneur, a community leader looking to build your first app or simply someone curious about coding, CCS wants you to pull up a seat.

Registration is now open and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The inaugural cohort will include between 15 to 30 participants, with a minimum of eight sessions offered throughout the year. Participants must be at least 18 years old and live in metro Detroit, but no prior experience in technology or app development is needed. Just bring your curiosity and commitment to learning.

For CCS, this initiative is part of a broader mission to provide high-quality, accessible education that empowers Detroit residents. The college has long been a hub for creative talent, training students in everything from automotive design to film and advertising. With the Apple Foundation Program, CCS is extending that mission into the tech space, equipping community members with tools to thrive in the digital economy.
