The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan (BGCSM) will be offering a Specialty Summer Camp Experience for youth ages 6 to 18 from June 15th through August 21st, 2020. The camp will be offered at both the Dick & Sandy Dauch Club at 16500 Tireman Street in Detroit and the Matilda R. Wilson Club at 220 South Squirrel Road in Auburn Hills.
“We’re happy to be able to provide parents the peace of mind that their children can spend time this summer in a place that enforces strict safety measures, while providing a fun, educational setting,” said Shawn H. Wilson, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan. “Kids have been stuck in their homes for months due to the pandemic and our camp is an excellent way to make up some of the peer engagement and learning that they have missed out on.”
The camps are a safe and affordable option for parents and guardians of children and teens residing in the Auburn Hills, Birmingham, Troy, Southfield, Rochester Hills, Royal Oak, Pontiac, Bloomfield Hills and Detroit communities. Due to the safety concerns as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, BGCSM has implemented additional cleaning measures and precautions to ensure the health of all members and staff. The organization provides more than 94 years of childcare experience and are licensed childcare providers by the State of Michigan.
The Specialty Summer Camp Experience is designed to offer a unique array of “edutainment” activities for campers to learn and enjoy including engineering, robotics, Legos, coding, dance and cheer, entrepreneurship and career exploration, performing arts, Esports gaming, film and video production, foreign language and sports camps – baseball, basketball and soccer. All programming is designed to make this very different summer still exciting and engaging through providing a world-class experience and empowerment to reach their full potential as change agents in their communities.
“Our staff is excited to welcome youth into our Specialty Summer Camp,” continued Wilson. “Attending camp can be especially exciting for many children this year because they get to see their friends and favorite staff members again. It’s important that we provide an environment for youth to socialize and express themselves after the quarantine. The Specialty Summer Camp will help youth to adjust to a new sense of normalcy while having fun.”
The cost is $100 a week for each youth, which includes the camp experience and access to BGCSM amenities of Virtual Club and Signature Programs. For more information on the Summer Camp Specialty Program or to enroll, visit www.bgcsm.org or call (313) 473-1400.
