What drew you to write another erotica novel?
There’s something about writing about it. More people are engaged in sex than war.
What you consider naughty to one person could be normal to the next.
I get more interesting questions about erotica than assassins.
Was it always your plan to write a sequel to Pleasure?
A fan had written me asking for more about Nia. I was done after Pleasure, but I went back and revisited the novel, not knowing when to begin. At the end of Pleasure she’s going to walk into a swinger’s club. I decided to let her go in. Nia as a character would go in. If I chose not to let her in then I’m getting in the way.
What do you like Nia?
Nia never cries about being a victim.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in Decadence?
I did more than I anticipated. Trying balance the juggling the characters was a challenge. I wasn’t going the guys coming together battle royale.
Tell us your latest news. We heard that Naughty or Nice has been optioned by Lionsgates Films. How is that coming?
Slow motion. Hollywood is white people. Make very little black product. You’ll get a Tyler Perry movie and then when is the next movie? When you make a white movie you make an international movie. When you make a black movie it’s going to bootleg.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers about Decadence?
Pick it up and I hope you enjoy it. Support the bookstores. [The internet] is an information superstore and now bookstores are becoming a ghost town.
