Bank of America volunteers holiday help at Salvation Army

bank-of-americaMore than two dozen Bank of America volunteers packed more than 7,000 holiday food boxes in support of the Salvation Army’s annual Bountiful Boxes program which provides the boxes to needy individuals and families in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
The boxes come in four culturally diverse options for the recipients and include a $10 gift card to supplement the non-perishable boxes with fresh food. Families of six or more will receive a $20 gift card.
This is the fourth year Bank of America has volunteered for the Bountiful Boxes packing day and is the program’s title sponsor. Last month, Bank of America presented the Salvation Army with a $50,000 check for program during its Day of Giving.
“When people have consistent access to food and resources to help make ends meet, they are stronger and healthier and can focus on achieving financial stability,” says Matt Elliott, Michigan Market President, Bank of America. “Our volunteer efforts at The Salvation Army are part of Bank of America’s broader commitment to drive sustainable growth in the Metro Detroit community.” This year Bank of America has invested $30 million in local nonprofits that support job training and access to basic human needs.
The Salvation Army has been distributing holiday season food boxes throughout its 129-year history and relies on contingent volunteers, such as those from Bank ofAmerica, to pack and ready the thousands of meals for distribution. “We are grateful to Bank of America for supporting our efforts to provide the makings of a holiday meal to families in need across the area so they can gather together for a special celebration,” said Major Russell Sjögren, The Salvation Army General Secretary and Metro Detroit Area Commander.. “The diverse ingredients of these Bountiful Boxes help families share important holiday traditions.”
