WHY: The Salvation Army has been distributing holiday season food boxes throughout its 129-year-history and relies on a contingent of volunteers, such as those from Bank of America, to pack and ready the thousands of meals for distribution. “We are grateful to Bank of America for supporting our efforts to provide the makings of a holiday meal to families in need across the area so they can gather together for a special celebration,” said Major Russell Sjögren, The Salvation Army General Secretary and Metro Detroit Area Commander.. “The diverse ingredients of these Bountiful Boxes help families share important holiday traditions.”
“When people have consistent access to food and resources to help make ends meet, they are stronger and healthier and can focus on achieving financial stability,” says Matt Elliott, Michigan Market President, Bank of America. “Our volunteer efforts at The Salvation Army are part of Bank of America’s broader commitment to drive sustainable growth in the Metro Detroit community.” This year Bank of America has invested $30 million in local nonprofits that support job training and access to basic human needs.
