Art Van Furniture Invites Detroiters To Express Themselves By Snapping A "Sofie" (Selfie On A Sofa) For Chance To Win The Sofa Of Their Dreams

“Sit, snap, share and win!” Art Van Furniture taking it to the streets of Detroit to celebrate the release of its 2014 Fall Style Catalog, inviting the public to strike a pose and take a selfie (or more accurately, a “sofie”) on a stylish new Art Van sofa for a chance to win one of their own from the retailer. On Friday, September 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the front of the Qube (formerly known as the Chase Tower) at 611 Woodward near Campus Martius will be transformed into a comfortable outdoor lounge with 55 stylish Art Van sofas. Guests can pose for their close up alone, with friends, or with Nigel Barker, the internationally renowned photographer, celebrity host of The Face on the Oxygen Network, and Art Van style maker. The “sofa flash mob” event will also feature music and the first 1,000 guests will receive gift bags containing the catalog.
The picture-taking participants must tag their Art Van sofie with the hashtags #ArtVan and #SofaSelfie and then post it on their personal Twitter, Facebook and/or Instagram social media sites. Art Van Furniture is also hosting similar events with Nigel Barker in Grand Rapids and Chicago. Individuals who are unable to attend the events can enter the contest by taking a selfie on a sofa at their favorite Art Van Furniture store. The top 55 contestants receiving the most retweets, shares and likes by September 30 will win a new sofa from Art Van Furniture.
“Nigel Barker shared his creative vision and extraordinary talent while shooting both our spring and fall 2014 catalogs, and we wanted to have some fun by putting him in front of the camera instead of behind it,” said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. “Everyone knows that Nigel is the ‘king of the selfie,’ and now he will also be known as the ‘star of the sofie.'”
