After Ukraine President’s Plea to Congress, Biden OKs $800M in Aid

President Joe Biden gave an address after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelensky pleaded with Congress in a recent speech, where he announced $800 million to help assist the country under Russian attack, FOX 2 Detroit reported.
Biden, who did not comply with Zelensky’s asks to send warplanes to Ukraine said the funds would be used for security-based assistance to the Ukraine, according to the report.

The extra $800 million is in addition to $1 billion — a total of $2 billion — overall since Biden took office as the head of state over a year ago, the report added.

Biden said on Wednesday that the financial support would allow for the “direct transfers of equipment from the Department of Defense to the Ukrainian military to help the continued fight against the Russian invasion,” per the report.

Biden added that the assistance would allow for 800 Stinger anti-aircraft systems, 100 grenade launchers, 20 million rounds of small arms ammunition and grenade launchers and mortar rounds, along with an assortment of drones, per the report.

“We’re going to give Ukraine the arms to fight and defend themselves through all the difficult days ahead,” Biden said in the story.

The Biden administration added that the White House has already sent Ukraine more than 600 Stinger missiles, 2,600 Javelin anti-armor systems, unmanned aerial system tracking radars; grenade launchers, 200 shotguns, 200 machine guns and nearly 40 million rounds of small arms ammunition, along with helicopters, patrol boats, satellite imagery and body armor, helmets, and other tactical gear, a White House official said earlier in the report.

“We’re crippling Putin’s economy with punishing sanctions that’s only going to grow more painful over time with the entire NATO and EU behind us, and many other countries,” Biden added.

“(Zelensky) speaks for people who have shown remarkable courage and strength in the face of brutal aggression,” Biden said in the report. “Courage and strength that’s inspired not only Ukrainians but the entire world.”
