You will develop a presence in African-American/Black communities through strengthening visibility, engaging volunteers and members, building key relationships, grassroots activities and educational forums. You will organize membership and volunteers to engage in health care and financial security issues related to priorities in Michigan. Work to engage members and volunteers in delivering AARP programs, activities and outreach with a focus on African-American/Black communities.

Teamwork is important and you will be joining a strong partnershipof staff and volunteers who are building a dynamic presence for AARP in Michigan.

Requires: BA/BS degree; and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience including grassroots organizing, issue campaign experience, volunteer leadership and management, marketing and public relations; excellent communication, interpersonal and computer skills. Demonstrated understanding of the state’s multicultural environment, understanding of cultural differences, experience in applying principles and practices in community organizing and adapting programs to diverse cultural settings.

Travel:  Up to 50%.
