Tuesday, infamous jewelry thief, Doris Payne, struck again by stealing a diamond necklace valued at $2,000 from an Atlanta Von Maur store.
Payne, 86, is accused of putting the necklace in her pocket and attempting to leave the store. She was arrested and now faces charges for shoplifting. This was not the first time Payne, 86, made the news for stealing. For 60 years, she has traveled the world to steal jewelry from expensive luxury brands like Cartier and Tiffany & Co.
Just last year, Payne was charged and convicted of stealing a diamond ring from an Atlanta Saks Fifth Avenue.
Payne doesn’t seem to have any remorse when it comes to her history of having sticky fingers.
“I don’t dictate what happens when I walk in the store. The people in charge dictate what happens with me when I walk in the store,” she said. “I don’t tell a person in the store I want to see something that costs $10,000. They make those decisions based on how I present myself and how I look.
Payne’s life is beyond fascinating. In the 2013 documentary, ‘The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne,’ she discusses her upbringing and shares stories from her many heists.
